Elections will be held Thursday, November 7th from 7:00 AM -7:00 PM at the Labor Temple.
Our Service and Support Council has been working very hard in order to improve our power and strength. We are building power by recruiting members to be more active. In order to be prepared for bargaining, we are electing our Bargaining Team as outlined below. Click here for the Bargaining Team nomination form.
1. BARGAINING TEAM SIZE: We will have a total of seven (7) Bargaining Team members. Meriter pays for bargaining time for the seven (7) regular team members up to their FTE of record at the rate of 8 hours per daily bargaining session.
2. ELECTIONS BY WORK UNIT: In order to improve representation on the team from a variety of Units, the Council has divided the Bargaining Unit into three (3) Unit Groups, each of which will have seats on the Bargaining Team according to the size of the Unit Group. The following three Unit Groups were made with attention paid to size, similarities, etc.:
GROUP #1: ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES (2 SEATS PLUS 1 ALTERNATE)
GROUP #2: FOOD & NUTRITION, BIOMED AND ENGINEERING (2 SEATS PLUS 1 ALTERNATE)
GROUP #3: NURSING (3 SEATS PLUS 1 ALTERNATE)
Only members in good standing can be nominated or vote in this election. You can nominate yourself or a co-worker. Members can be nominated for their unit group only. During voting, everyone will have the opportunity to vote for a nominee in each group. (If there are no nominations or not enough nominations from one of the groups, the Council will have the ability to fill the open position(s) through appointment or other means.)
Nominations must be received in the District Union Office by no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Make sure that you meet the deadline for your nomination. Click here for the Bargaining Team nomination form.
REMEMBER! Being elected to the Bargaining Team is a commitment for the entire term of the contract! You are responsible for mid-term negotiations or any other bargaining-related issues that come up until the contract expires. It is a wonderful opportunity and a great responsibility.
